INPROITEC and MPES Sign Major Contract for the Modernization of Catoca’s Processing Plant (CT2)
Project Overview & Objectives
The primary focus of this 9-month partnership is to execute a comprehensive technical audit, optimize operations, and formulate a targeted investment plan for the modernization of Treatment Plant No. 2 (CT2) at the Sociedade Mineira de Catoca (SMC) in Angola.
The scope of the contract covers the following key operational pillars:
Technological Auditing: A deep evaluation of the existing processing flowsheet—including crushing, milling, gravity separation, flotation, and advanced X-ray transmission (XRT) systems.
Operational Optimization: Pinpointing structural bottlenecks, reducing equipment downtime, and maximizing diamond recovery while maintaining crystal integrity.
Sustainability & Safety: Implementing energy-saving frameworks (evaluating kWh/t and renewable energy opportunities), recycling water, and ensuring strict compliance with local safety and environmental standards.
Knowledge Transfer: MPES will supply high-end equipment—including a Drop weight tester, a Continuous Pilot Autogenous Grinding Mill, and a Bond Ball Mill—which will ultimately become the property of INPROITEC. Concurrently, MPES will provide hands-on training to INPROITEC personnel on experimental sample processing.
A Milestone for Angolan Mining This contract is fully aligned with INPROITEC's core mandate to structurally bolster the development of national industrial capacity, streamline operations in massive mining nodes like Catoca, and benchmark domestic production against global best practices.
The project execution is already organized into a phased 12-stage roadmap, moving seamlessly from gaps analysis and initial plant diagnostic reports to raw mechanical testing and final CAPEX/OPEX modeling. This structural approach guarantees that Catoca's CT2 is prepared for next-generation efficiency and sustainable long-term performance.
